What is a vocabulary?
An AAC vocabulary is the collection of letters, words, phrases, or symbols that you will see on an AAC system.
There are lots of different vocabularies for AAC, some use just text and spelling – others use special pictures called ‘symbols’ to represent words.
Symbol-based vocabularies can be organised in different ways to support different types of sentence building – there is no ‘best’ solution – which is why you need to spend time looking at different options and trying them out.
Symbol-based AAC vocabularies can include:
Core words (like “go,” “want,” “more”) used in many situations
Fringe words (like “banana,” “train,” “zebra”) that are more specific
Personal words (like names of family, pets, or favourite places)

LAMP Words for Life
LAMP WFL is designed for autistic individuals and individuals with developmental disabilities. It uses consistent motor patterns to help users learn language naturally, just like speaking.
