Have you ever been watching an animated film and recognised a characters voice? For many of us, when this happens, we end up missing part of the film as we try to place where we know the voice from. You may have had a similar experience when out and about somewhere – you hear a voice and before you even turn round you know who it’s going to be.

Our voice can be an integral part of our identity – (even though many of us cringe when we hear our own voices in videos or on messages) and so the prospect of losing that voice can be incredibly distressing.

There are a number of circumstances where someone may face the prospect of losing their voice and loss of voice can be permanent or temporary. For some, who have an ongoing condition, permanent voice loss may be something that is likely to occur as their condition progresses. For others, they may face permanent voice loss after a surgical intervention. Others may face a temporary loss of voice as they recover from surgery.

In these situations, where a loss of voice may be a possibility, it is possible to preserve your voice as a recording, which can then later be used with an AAC system if needed in the future.

The Voice Keeper is an online voice banking solution which allows you to preserve your own voice. Using either a PC with a USB headset, or a simple app on iPhone, you can effortlessly record a series of short sentences. Once completed, the Voice Keeper creates a digital version of your voice based on the recordings taken. Your digital voice can be used across a range of AAC systems and apps to create spontaneous sentences – you don’t need to just use the phrases you recorded.

There is no cost to record your voice and, as it is recommended you record your voice when it is still strong, the Voice Keeper allows you store your voice for 5 years, free of charge.

When you do need to use your digital voice, your Voice Keeper voice will be free of charge to use across all of Liberators High Tech AAC devices and AAC apps.

Your voice is an integral part of who you are, preserving it for the future ensures you can still sound like you.
